Business Class Travel Is The Intermediate Of Economy Class And The First Class

Business is at an intermediate level between the first and the economy class. In today's generation there is a growing demand among the tourists to visit places. Hence the airfares are brought to a minimum. There is a reduction in the airfares especially for those tourists and the business having frequent reason to travel from one place to the other. Airlines introduced the business class. These trips offer better quality of seating and various other improved facilities like food, and the other conveniences. There are many company officials and notable personalities preferring this mode of air travel.
This mode of travel features all the necessary facilities which a person travelling can ever dream of. The staffs accommodating them are extremely courteous. There is a chance of them getting personal staff to specially accommodate them in any way possible. To get business class tickets for discounted price, browsing through their websites is the best option. This will help them to get a variety of choices. The freedom is yours in choosing any package you wish to. It is not a bad idea to check out well established travel agencies too. Their web sites will certainly offer loads of info on these queries.
Interacting with several airline companies is also not a bad idea. Asking them about the details of their several airline packages and knowing how to get more discounts will certainly help. Finding if a cheap promotional package is available and just go for it!
Interacting with the air line company directly is the best way to settle for best deal. To add to your convenience you may also check if there are comfortable hotel accommodations. If you have good bargaining skill and choosing a good option there are chances of you landing a combined deal with a comfortable hotel accommodation for a less price.
Air fares are cheaper a month or two earlier. It is a good idea to book your tickets in advance as they will cost less. There is one more thing that is necessary to be aware of! At the most never book your air tickets for a business meeting or some work during the weekends or on day before holidays. It is a good idea to fly for business meeting or other professional reasons during the off-peak seasons or for other reasons too.
There are many airlines which are in partnership with several credit-card companies. It is possible to get some extra mileage points purchasing your tickets using this credit-card. You can also use this credit-card for getting hold of a discount for an air fare.
There are many companies sponsoring international travel. For business purposes this is very much required. It is necessary that for these companies to insure the traveler for his stay in the unknown island. It is very necessary for these persons to be insured health wise especially those who are less than 75 years of age.

When Your Flight Comes With a Meal - Arranging Special Food Options

This is an age of competition, and when it comes to flights, each airline is offering special services in order to attract more and more customers. As far as food offered in the flights is concerned, you may have some special needs that you may want the attendants to fulfill. For example, you may need some special food options if you have an allergy to certain food products. Some passengers may also ask for a religiously prepared meal, dairy-free meal or low salt or low fat meal. Before booking your cheap flights, make sure that they are providing special food options too, as per your individual requirements and preferences.
Informing Well in Advance
If you have special dietary needs, you should inform your airline or travel agent at least 2 days before your date of travel. Generally, informing 24 hours before the flight is sufficient, but the more time you give to them, the better it will be for both of you. Remember that there are no extra costs for such special meals, as they are just substitutes for regular meals they are offering to other customers. A reputed airline will try its best to accommodate your special requirements.
Confirming with the Flight Attendant
When you enter the aircraft, it would be better to confirm with the flight attendant that your special meal has been arranged. If it has not yet been done, it will give some time for them to make arrangements for your special food options. When the time comes to serve the meals, remind the flight attendant that you have been marked for a special food option. In case the special meal is not available in the cheap flights or if they have missed loading it on the flight, you can ask for compensation as a meal voucher. You can use this voucher in a food facility at your transit or destination airport.
Keep your Calm
If your special food has not been arranged in the cheap flights, you should keep your calm and not shout on the flight attendants. After all, it is not their fault. They will be pleased to compensate you with a meal voucher. You should be reasonable and polite. In some cases, they may also arrange food options for business or first class, irrespective of which class your cheap ticket belongs to.
Some of the food options that most cheap flights offer include:
• Asian vegetarian
• Hindu
• Muslim
• Vegetarian Jain
• Low sodium
• Bland
• Diabetic
• Fruit platter
• Non-lactose
• Vegetarian
• Gluten intolerant/ gluten free
• Vegetarian lacto-ovo
• Low fat/ low cholesterol
• Low calorie
• Baby
• Seafood
• Raw vegetable
• Vegetarian oriental
Surely, you will find the food option that you will be more comfortable with. But if you have special allergies and none of these options are feasible for you, then consider carrying your own food on the flight. Remember that most airlines announce beforehand that they will not be able to reheat your food. If an allergy triggers in-flight, traveling doctors are always there, carrying their emergency kits. Before booking cheap flights, ensure that the airline is offering special food options, as per your individual requirements and preferences.

Airplane Travel - What NOT to Take for the Flight

Now-a-days, airports around the world have increased their security measures on what you are allowed to and not allowed to carry in your luggage. Once you have booked your cheap ticket, the next thing you have to do is to start packing your baggage. But when you reach the security checkpoints, you are surprised to see that a large amount of the items from your baggage have been discarded. Therefore, it will be helpful for you to know beforehand what you can take on a flight and what you cannot.
Rules regarding food items
First of all, you must know that any packed food such as soup, vegetables, fruits, sauces and peanut butter should not exceed 3 ounces. This also includes cheese, yogurt and whipped cream. If you have decided to pack your own food for the flight, make sure that it does not have a strong odor, as it can be disturbing for other passengers on the plane. If you have a little baby traveling with you, you may be allowed to carry cow milk, formula, breast milk and soya milk. You can also pack sterilized water in the baby bottle. But for security reasons, you may be asked to taste it at check points. You should realize that these are for security purposes only and you should do it without hesitation.
Sharp objects
Sporting goods, tools, kitchen utensils and other such things having sharp points or edges can injure a person on the plane. Therefore, such objects are not allowed to be carried on a flight. Such objects include crampons, knives, ice axes, ice picks, meat cleavers, metal cutlery, open or straight razors, scalpels, utility knives, saws, crowbars, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches and pliers. Sporting goods that have sharp points or edges include ski poles, ice skates, drills, darts and rock climbing equipments such as hooks, pitons, bolts and hammers. Sharp objects that are not weapons, but may cause harm through penetration include razor blades, bodkins, letter openers, metal scissors and hypodermic needles. The security checkpoints will not allow you to take these items on the flight.
Items that can be used for threatening someone
After you book cheap flights to your destination, make sure that you are not carrying any object that the security check people will discard. These items include not only sharp objects, but also blunt objects big enough to threaten someone. Such items may be golf clubs, cricket bats, softball, baseball, hockey, billiard, snooker or pool cues, lacrosse sticks or any wood or metal piece that can be used for terrorizing someone.
Flammable goods
The security check will also not allow you to carry any flammable goods on the flight. Such items may include aerosol containers, fireworks, petrol or any flammable liquid, dynamite, plastic explosives, blasting caps, gunpowder, grenades or replicas of plastic explosives or incendiary devices. Also keep away explosives such as paint thinner, toiletries, turpentine, flammable paints, cooking fuel, lighter fluid, gas torch, matches or gasoline.
Other items that you will not be allowed to take on the flight include:
• Poisons like pesticides, weed killer, arsenic, cyanides or rodent poisons
• Organics like peroxides or fiberglass resins
• Strong magnets like those in loudspeakers or lab equipments
• Infectious materials like viral organisms, medical lab specimens or bacterial cultures
• Any dangerous item like spray paint, tear gas, spa or swimming pool chlorine or torch lighters.

Travel To Emerging Tourist Destinations

It is often said that there are two basic types of people who book overseas vacations. There are those tourists who choose to visit locations where they can sit back and relax, and other travelers who are a lot more intrepid and plan trips to regions wherein they can experience a culture and witness sights the like of which are not available elsewhere. If you are currently in the process of checking out transportation to new and emerging tourist destinations, one country you should give serious consideration to is Eritrea.
Located on the shores of the Red Sea, and bordering Ethiopia, Sudan, and Djibouti, Eritrea is a land that is yet to be discovered by all but the hardiest of travelers. A major reason why the country has been off the tourist radar almost since its independence from Ethiopia in 1993 is the sporadic war that occasionally boils over between these two countries.
Those few adventurous travelers who have made the journey here have been rewarded with sights and attractions that are diverse and unspoiled. The country is a hidden gem that offers visitors an opportunity to experience an ancient culture which can be dated back more than four thousand years.
The country's capital, Asmara, boasts some of the most pristine colonial architecture in all of Africa. Many days can be spent exploring the winding streets and bazaars and soaking up the culture of this enigmatic city. A short road trip to the west lies the Red Sea coast and the sultry town of Massawa.
Massawa has an Islamic influence, not surprising considering its location looking out towards Saudi Arabia. It is also the embarkation point for visits to the Dahlak Islands, often described as being the least known and least spoiled coral reefs in the Red Sea.
The southern region of the country also has a number of fascinating attractions. The wide open wasteland of Dankalia has a magnetism which should be experienced by every visitor to Eritrea. There are few places on the planet that leave visitors feeling such a sense of awe and insignificance.
With more than ten distinct ethnic groups, the people of this proud nation are a major highlight. As is typical in east Africa, travelers are made to feel welcome in every town and village. If you are searching for flights to a destination that will invigorate your soul and live long in your memory, Eritrea is certainly a end point that should be given serious consideration.

Creating Children's Travel Journals

Keeping a journal is something that can be a fun and rewarding experience for a child and it will help them with their mental development. Having a travel journal can be make it even more rewarding for a child and help to keep them involved in their writing and help to develop their written expression skills. This is a great activity for the summer time vacation holidays and will help keep your child's mind active during the summer days off. You can either create your own or use printable travel journals available on the internet.
Be Involved
You want the children's travel journal to be theirs and help them express themselves. You can do this by many ways, but you want to keep it simple for them so that they enjoy it and treasure it. One way to help them and be involved yourself is to keep a travel journal of your own to be able to help them when they want you to or may need it. Kids love to be involved and help with things, you can use this to get them involved with what they doing in their journal. Ask them if they may want to make suggestions to their journal and what they should put in it. You will find that children have great ideas that you may have never thought of and you can use this to have them explore their imagination. Or even better give them a printable travel journal with some information already presented so they can learn and explore the country you are visiting!
Make it Personal
You want to help them at every place you can, but individualism is important for developing minds. There are many things you can do to help a child personalize their travel journal. They can design it with their favorite colors or cartoon characters and pictures. There are many ways to make the journal personal with drawings or stationary, you may even download different types if stationery or stickers from the places that you have visited. If you visited Dubai you could find desert themed stationery or stickers. Another thing you could do, is use different stationery for every part of the journey. Another great idea is cutting up old magazines to find the letters or pictures you need to create a great travel book!
Make It Interactive
You can make the journal interactive in a way by adding things to it like a map that will mark the way as you travel across the world or a place near you. All you need to do is print a map of your destinations and use it in the journal with a pin and a string making a route of everywhere you have been. You can also add photos to the album so that it is a more memorable experience. Again printable children's travel journals will offer a great number of interactive activities.

The Top 3 Safest Airlines in North America

According to Superman, flying is still considered the safest way to travel. By flying, we mean riding a plane on our way to our intended destination, whether it's a different city, state or even country. When you look at the facts, traveling by plane holds the lowest number of accidents compared to any other mode of transportation. Reading further into statistics, there is a one in a 4 million shot for any probability of a passenger dying from a crash, which makes it even more of a fact that you won't be experiencing any dangerous situations when traveling by plane. To a lot of people, traveling by air may be the only way they can ever reach their destinations, and they would often question the safety provided by the airlines they've chosen. However, if you need cold, hard facts, below are three of the safest options to travel by air in North America.
Southwest Airlines - This is by far the largest airline in the US, accommodating several passengers all over the country every year. It is also renowned among travelers for being a discount airline, one that provides affordable travel rates in contrast to the rest of its rivals in the airline industry. In terms of safety, there hasn't been a single fatality during its operational run, making it arguably the safest pick for an airline company in the US, let alone the entire world. Statistics state that there is a 0.0000203 percent chance of incidents occurring on its flights.
Delta Airlines - Ranking among the biggest airlines all over the globe, this is a highly reputable company in the US. It merged with Northwest Airlines back in 2008, thus making it possibly the largest commercial airline company in the whole world. It provides flights for passengers traveling to any of the 6 continents. Much like Southwest, it has good standing in terms of safety in flights, boasting 0.17 fatalities for every million miles traveled, as well as an infinitesimal incidents percentage which is just a bit higher than Southwest's
Virgin America - Aside from being one of the many airlines which provides high quality service for its passengers, with individual entertainment screens for watching your favorite movies or TV show, you can surely expect this to be a safe choice. There hasn't been any record of major safety incidents since the start of its operations in August 2007.

Choosing to Travel To An Exotic Destination

Whether you are a traveler who has experienced your fair share of off the beaten track destinations, or are an individual who usually takes a vacation in a regular resort and is now planning to travel to an exotic destination for your next trip overseas, a visit to Morocco would likely be a choice that is not regretted. Though only a short distance from the shores of Europe, Morocco is a world away culturally.
The structure and certainties of the western world vanish as soon as one sets foot in Morocco. Though not as chaotic as some other African countries, it is still a destination that can overload the senses. The country offers an opportunity to immerse one's self in a culture that is both rich and fascinating. There is no shortage of interesting sights and attractions to be discovered in this diverse land. Most visitors start their trips in one of the bigger cities, each of which is unique in its own right.
Tangier, a city once glamorous but now slightly faded is still the first port of call of many international visitors. The Atlantic winds blow strongly along this coast and take visitors down to the cosmopolitan and internationally famous city of Casablanca. Further south lies the fishing ports of Essaouira and Agadir, replete with whitewashed homes and old style Moroccan architecture.
The imperial cities of Fez and Marrakesh, inland from the coastal towns have been attracting visitors for centuries. The ancient medinas and winding streets offer untold surprises, this is why they attract visitors to return time and again. Away from the urban sprawl there are Roman ruins, indicative of just how far this once mighty empire spread.
If you are an individual keen on experiencing nature at its best, Morocco offers a number of possibilities for you to wear your hiking boots and get a true sense of this ancient land. There are endless trails that meander between Berber villages, as well as the option of trekking the High Atlas mountains. The truly hardy can attempt to conquer North Africa's highest peak, Jebel Toubkal, though this is best done with guide in tow.
When you book a flight to Morocco, it is not complete without spending at least one night camping out in the Sahara. Very little can compare to the experience of riding out into the desert on a camel, then settling down for the evening in front of a camp fire with the heavens above dotted with a seemingly unlimited number of stars.

The Truth About Mesa Airlines

There is one facet of business that seems particular accurate in the aviation industry, and that is the strength and power of partnerships. Mesa quickly caught on and within two years of starting their operations Mesa Airlines already had a code share agreement in place. This was a very common move for Mesa because they continued creating alliances which allowed them to grow. Even though this is a regional carrier, they have specialized in this service sector for just over 30 years. And, Mesa have had very profitable quarters since the close of 2001. Below are some very interesting facts about the Mesa Air Group.
Mesa Air Group, which includes Mesa Airlines, seeks to work with aspiring pilots and help them to earn their flying wings. The Mesa Pilot Development program is constructed to teach an exceptional curriculum, while also gaining your accredited documents.
With Mesa and Arizona State University joining forces, they may have an even better chance to achieve success. Students attending Arizona State, after achieving a four year Bachelor degree, will also have earned the required pilot documents. At this point, the nominee will be afforded a consultation with the Mesa Air Group for the standing of copilot, or First Officer.
Mesa Airlines formed a partnership which eventually led to the creation of United Express. This is another example of a code share with guaranteed revenue, and this is fairly standard in the airline industry. United Express has operations running from Chicago's O'Hare airport and the Washington-Dulles airport. They currently operate a number of Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft. United Express, and a number of other airlines, operate under the Mesa Group.
Once in awhile you can be overwhelmed with the many different code shares and fusions between carriers, particularly the less significant airlines. Typical of how these issues are dealt with in the aviation industry.
America West Airlines, an airline associated with Mesa, joined up with US Airways in 2005. Meanwhile Mesa is tied in with the US Airways Group given the code share arrangement. Given the other code share pact, Mesa is still involved as US Airways Express. At long last, Mesa is allowed to maintain its lucrative commercial delivery service. Mesa Airlines is in some ways a typical story of an idea for an airline that starts from very humble beginnings. In order to make an airline truly successful you must spend a lot of time on it. Profits aren't always so great in this industry, and it's very responsive to business cycles. However the people who do this sort of thing know and understand the risks beforehand. The history of Mesa Airlines is a great example of how all businesses must do something about harsh economic times by using every available resource to them to make sure they keep going and making money.

What if the New Chinese Comac C919 Airliner Has Carbon Composite Wings and GE Engines?

One thing we do very good United States is build jet aircraft. In fact, we are quite good at it. We are the best in the world. The other day, I was talking to my father who is a former airline pilot, as we watched a small private jet takeoff from the local airport, I noted that it only went down the runway about 1,000 feet leapt into the air, and climbed out at about a 35° angle. Of course, the private jet was probably empty, it didn't have full fuel, but it was rather impressive.
In any case, my father explained how reliable and powerful these new jet engines were, and how the materials were making the aircraft even lighter, and giving them outstanding performance. Right now as we speak China is opening up its general aviation sector, allowing Chinese to own their own private jet aircraft. At first, they will probably be buying US corporate Jets, and from Europe.
However, eventually they will be making their own, and they will be making them cheaper due to their labor costs, and then they will compete globally making it very difficult for any Corporation to rationalize buying an American made jet aircraft. Sure, at first the quality may not be there, and companies will choose to go with safety, but just like the Japanese in building cars that didn't last very long, today their luxury brands are just as good as American cars. I hope I didn't offend anyone there, but it is the truth, we have to face the facts.
Well, what about airliners? Interestingly enough, China also has a state run company which is making jet airliners, and their first jet airliner is due out in production before 2015. You may think that they won't be able to compete with Boeing or Airbus, but I completely disagree, they will be using the same technology in fact.
There was a very good article in the Wall Street Journal on March 7, 2012 titled "Boeing Forms Alliance with Chinese Jet Maker," by David Kesmodel which stated that Boeing and Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) was coming along fine and Boeing was setting up a research center and working with their R&D to assist them in bringing their C919 to full production and fruition for the Chinese Market and then as a global export. The article stated;
"This is the first alliance between Boeing and State Owned Comac C919 aircraft, which is also a threat to Boeing's 737 Max and Airbus' A320 Neo in the single-aisle narrow body airliners," and "Other foreign companies in the Chinese aerospace sector have also linked up with Chinese State-Run companies. GE in January of 2011 made a deal with Aviation Industry Corporation of China, also one of Comac's major shareholders. GE's partnership is a 50-50% deal."
Okay so, I'd like to return to the title of this article and ask you the question once again. What if the new Chinese Comac C919 has General Electric engines, Boeing technology, including carbon composite wings? If so, you can bet it will be a viable competitor on the world market and really give all the other manufacturers a run for their money. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Should Chinese Airlines Buy Airbus Aircraft or The Best Boeing Jet Airliners?

The Chinese surely understand how international trade negotiations work, and they also understand bribery, extortion, market manipulations, and disruption of supply chain through competitive maneuvering. So, suffice it to say that the Chinese aren't nearly as naïve as many in the Western World might assume. In fact, in many regards China sees trade as just another lesser version of war, and in case you forgot Sun Tzu was Chinese - so, the only folks naïve are those who think the Chinese are somehow lesser in strategic trade issues or ignorant to business affairs. They are running their own game plan and thus, recognize when someone is trying to pull over a fast one on them.
Okay so, let's take all this to a higher level and leave the Council on Foreign relations, EU's Belgium know-it-alls, UN diatribes, and the WTO's loosely enforced rhetoric out of it for a moment. The reality is that the EU has attempted to put the screws to China, not that China is perfect by any means, and force them to buy 100s of new airliners which meet the EU's new CO2 emissions standards or pay huge fees and taxes to compete in Europe. It appears that the whole Airliner Cap and Trade (tax and fee) program has been concocted by a few higher-ups at the EU who are perpetuating the Global Warming Theory (myth) which states that emissions of CO2 from human industry and activities are causing the planet to melt?
Now then, there was an interesting article recently in the Wall Street Journal entitled; "China Envoy Backs Shunning of Airbus," by Daniel Michaels published on 3/10/2012 which discussed some sharp words coming out of a Brussels meeting recently. The article stated that;
"China's ambassador to the EU said that "it makes sense for Chinese Airlines to shun Europe's Airbus planes in favor of competing American models from Boeing Company in response to the EU's new levies on aviation greenhouse emissions."
Of course it does, it makes a lot of sense, especially as it really appeared to me to be an extortion like move from the EU to get Chinese Airlines to buy Airbus jets, which would have re-balanced trade surpluses slightly and put 10s of thousands of folks to work in factories building those jets - along with another win for Global Warming Alarmists showing they can control markets and introduce a new form of currency to control and force environmentalism down the throats of nations world-wide, while also keeping Chinese, Russian, African, Indonesian low-cost carries with older aircraft out of the lucrative European airline markets.
Then there was the previous WSJ article on 3/9/2012 entitled; "EU-China Battle Stalls Airbus Sales," by Daniel Michaels and David Pearson which explained that the CEO of Airbus accused EU higher-ups of creating a war with the Chinese costing Airbus over $12 billion in new aircraft orders. I'd say it is at least that high, if not higher, and in the future could blossom to an astronomical loss for Airbus, all over climate-gate tactics. Apparently, all this maneuvering in the EU back-fired on them, and it couldn't have come at a worse time considering the financial crisis in the member nations there.
Further, the Chinese don't want to reward bad behavior or succumb to this extortion-like move, nor should they. China has every right to buy aircraft from whomever they want for whatever reason they care to choose. That's what free-markets are about, and the EU knows or should have known better. But in this case the Chinese airlines will be buying superior aircraft from the Boeing Company anyway, so it's a win-win for all. Please consider all this and think on it.

Chinese and American Partnerships and Airliner Manufacturing Industry Considered

Is it possible that Boeing might actually create a subsidiary in China and be intimately and financially involved with Comac? Well, that's certainly a possibility. I don't doubt for a minute that Airbus would have tried, if they had a good shoe in. Right now, they obviously don't because Chinese airlines are quite upset with the EUs CO2 emissions standards, and their Cap and Trade tax scheme for airliner pollution. Okay so, let's talk about all these things for a moment shall we?
It was recently noted in Aviation Week and Space Technology that so far in 2012 Boeing has secured 387 orders to Airbus' 91. That's a huge difference from what happened in 2010 in 2011, and if you will remember the Paris Air Show it looked as if Airbus was running away with the entire show. Later, of course Boeing secured some extremely large orders, in fact some of the largest in history for their 737, and their new 737 MAX.
Since Boeing is now working with Comac and Comac is working with General Electric to buy engines for their new C919, perhaps Boeing will be able to sell a huge number of 737 MAX airliners in the near-term, until China gets its C919 program off the ground, which it hopes to be able to deliver its first aircraft by 2014, even though that may not be possible, considering there are significant challenges and hurdles to European and US regulations.
There was an interesting article recently published in Bloomberg on March 7, 2012 entitled; "Boeing Expects About 200 Orders From China for 737 MAX Airplane This Year," which stated;
"We're out talking to every single airline in China about the 737 MAX," Orders may total a couple of hundred 737 MAXs in China this year and quite a number of 747-8s," and "the planned C919 from state-backed Comac already has 225 orders and commitments. Comac is going to sell into their domestic market and they'll probably also sell some of their planes around the world - in the years to come, they're going to be a tough competitor."
"A Tough Competitor," might be an understatement especially if the new C919 has an option of carbon composite wing's using Boeing technology, and General Electric engines. In that case it could easily hurt the Russian airline manufacturing industry, as well as curtail sales for Bombardier and Embraer. Yes, the Airbus A320 Neo, and Boeing 737 MAX will also have to compete, even though they have quite a head start, and thousands of aircraft already flying, meaning they are so far along the learning curve that the C919 will have a tough time catching up.
Still, the Chinese learn very fast from other people's mistakes, and a copy what works, ditching that which doesn't. Obviously that is also a major factor for selling airliners in the future. Not to mention the fact that once their aviation industry really gets going, they will sell tons of these airliners domestically. Please consider all this and think on it.

There also are the packages for senior citizens, blind people, cancer patients and army persons among other similar categories. These people can easily travel without burning a hole in their pocket. The concessions are easy to avail.
There also are special schemes for people who are looking for cheap air tickets. The advantages are truly beneficial and there are no burdens on the passengers to spend big bucks for traveling on a world class airline.
JetLite is a world class service, which offers a lot of benefits to its clients by finding the perfect way to enhance the comfort of clients. The in-flight and the ground staff are well trained and capable and they also offer a comfortable journey to travelers. The aim is to offer the passengers with a world class traveling experience that makes them fall in love with the airline.

Nothing To Be Afraid Of - Or Is It Everything?

MAR 2012: Something is going terribly wrong in the North America. Citizens travelling in the land of the free and the home of the brave - and certainly a growing number in Canada - are becoming almost ridiculously afraid of their own shadows.
Stir in some overzealous airport security officers and you come up with a seriously unpleasant travelling experience. And, rather than easing, the problem is, for no intelligible reason, being exacerbated. Several recent examples exemplify this.
Spiritual message
Disneyland shut down for three hours last week when a park security officer discovered a "suspicious object" in a tree near the ticket booths to California Adventure and Disneyland. The bomb squad was called in and during a three hour security lockdown apparently tens of thousands of park guests were stuck in parking garages.
The maybe-bomb turned out to be a 'spiritual message of goodwill' scroll placed in the tree by an anonymous well-wisher.
Box cutter
A Southwest Airlines flight from Houston to Dallas was cancelled yesterday after a passenger spotted a box cutter in the plane's overhead bin. The plane's captain alerted airport security. All 97 passengers were taken off the plane and re-screened. Nothing was found on plane or passengers.
Yes, the terrorists on those September 11 planes used boxcutters, but that cannot make "boxcutter" a buzzword for terror. Or have one in a bin cancel a flight.
Happy Birthday
When a pilot wished a "mom on board" a happy birthday - some passengers panicked because they thought he had said 'bomb on board." A humourless few registered complaints on landing even after the mistake was explained.
Breast pumps
A woman travelling from Hawaii with her nine month old and a breast pump, was required to prove that the pump was what she said it was by pumping breast milk into a bottle and showing the agent the full bottle of milk before she could board her plane with the device. She said she was "humiliated." No kidding.
Embarrassing travellers appears to be on the rise. Breast pumps, adult diapers, prosthesises, sex toys, pat downs that are more "feel-ups" - nothing appears to be too personal to be questioned, touched or examined in the most humiliating, aggressive manner by airport security.
Too accepting
And passengers and the government tolerate it in the name of security.
Think about it. When a nation grows paranoid about its safety and wellbeing - the enemy wins.
The terrorists do not have to do one more thing. We are all - because it is not just Americans who are reacting so strongly - we are all already the losers.
Yes, of course governments must exercise care. Citizens must be protected. But common sense must play a role and we must ensure that a uniform and badge does not engender bullying and aggression.
In my own experience the vast majority of security agents while thorough, are pleasant, and efficient, and this should not be viewed as an attack on them. It's always the few that cause the headlines. But the incidents are becoming more frequent and few days go by without some airport issue.
As for travellers - let's try and have confidence, courage and a sense of security. And let's not magnify every tiny incident (or non-incident) into a headline.

Online Avenues For Flight Schedule And Status Information

Getting the information on the flight schedule is important for planning your travel. You would be able to book the tickets only if you know which airlines would be flying on a particular day and at which specific point of time. It is only after getting this information that you would be able to decide on which airline to travel and at what time and day. You might also change your travel plan if the flight schedule information is not conducive to your requirements. Similarly, the flight status tells whether the flight is on-time, delayed or even cancelled. Therefore, the passengers need the latest updates on the flights for better planning.
Using the internet-based services, it is possible to know the latest updates on computers as well as mobiles. You can even get the status alerts on your mobiles through the SMS services even if you are not logged on to the internet. The real-time flight tracking enables you to keep in touch with the latest status. Generally, people look for the flight schedule information on the internet on the following web resources to gain correct information:
1. Airlines websites: The airlines websites provide the information on their own flights and routes. So, if you want to travel with a particular airline, you can visit the website of that airline, select the departure and arrival cities or airports and find which flights fly on the designated segment. Since these do not provide information on other airlines, their relevance is only for their own flights.
2. Airports websites: The information about the flight schedule and the minute-by-minute flight status can also be known on the websites of the airports. The benefit of logging onto airport websites is that you can know all the flights from all the airlines that would be arriving or departing on a particular day at that particular airport. So, this gives you the flexibility of choosing the airline and the time of travel on a particular day.
3. Websites of travel agencies: The schedule and status information provided on the websites of the online travel agencies give even greater flexibility than that of the airport since these agencies give information about the flights across different airports.
These are the three most common online sources for finding the flight schedule and their status. You would be required to provide certain details such as dates of travel, arrival and departure places and the airline preferences. Thus, online medium makes it possible to look for the flight time-table on different resources from a single place.
